It was a very successful weekend for many Littleton Public Schools students at the recent Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Leadership Conference. Held April 9 – 11, 2015 at the Renaissance Hotel in Denver, this year’s theme was “Life Thru the Lens: Most Iconic Awards.” Students from Heritage High School as well as LPS’ Fashion Design and Teacher Cadet programs attended the almost 1300 person conference and competed in a variety of events.
At this year’s competitions, Heritage High School’s FCCLA students received two gold medals, seven silver medals and a bronze medal. Three LPS Fashion Design students attended, two of whom were named national qualifiers with their gold medal finishes and a third who earned a bronze medal. Teacher Cadet students received one gold medal, twelve silver medals and five bronze medals. The gold medal finisher was also named a national qualifier. Mimi Leonard, the district’s coordinator for Career and Technical Education, expressed her excitement for the fabulous performances of all LPS students at the conference.
FCCLA is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that focuses on postsecondary readiness through Family and Consumer Sciences education. Like other CTSOs, leadership skills development is a central focus.
