Six scouts from Troop 114 in Littleton were honored for earning the Eagle Rank in 2014 at the Denver Area Council’s Eagle Scout Recognition Banquet February 20 at the Renaissance Hotel in Denver. They were among the Council’s 431 scouts who earned the Eagle Rank in 2014.

Englewood resident Grady Wasil, Centennial resident Grant Wharry and Littleton residents Logan Nelson, Jacob Madsen, Brian Harry and William Hinkley all earned Scouting’s highest honor last year after completing their Eagle projects, earning the required 21 merit badges and passing a Board of Review. Grady’s achievement marked the 199th time that a Troop 114 scout earned the Eagle rank.

“Troop 114 is very proud of our 2014 class of Eagle Scouts!” said Troop 114 Committee Chair Bob Dagg. “Over the past 12 years, these six scouts have positively influenced hundreds of youth at the local and national level.  They continue to lead in Boy Scouts and in their high school and college endeavors.  Their Eagle service projects resulted in more than 800 volunteer hours supporting two local schools, two local churches and Chatfield State Park.”

These new Eagle Scouts are now in good company, joining an elite group of Eagle Scouts that includes the 2014 Outstanding Eagle Scout Award Recipients Mr. LaVoy Robison and Dr. Michael Dent, who were honored at the banquet for lifetime career achievements and volunteer work at the Rotary Club, Iliff School of Theology and the Anschutz Foundation, among others.

Their example inspires Troop 114’s new Eagle Scouts to continue that legacy of leadership. In that spirit, Dagg exclaimed, “Congratulations, men—lead on!”

Here is a profile of each of Troop 114’s 2014 Eagle Scouts:

Brian Harry, a junior at Heritage, earned his Eagle on Sept. 10, 2014. His Eagle Project involved repairing an eroded trail in Chatfield State Park. He is also a member of Order of the Arrow, Scouting’s National Honor Society.

William Hinkley, a Heritage senior, earned his Eagle rank on Oct. 22, 2014. His Eagle Project was installing a hanging ceiling in the Scout Hut at Littleton United Methodist Church (LUMC). He served as assistant patrol leader for programs, chaplain’s aide and den chief and was inducted in the Tribe of Mic-o-Say. He plans to study biology this fall in college.

Jacob Madsen, a junior at Heritage, earned his Eagle on June 16, 2014. His Eagle Project was building a trail at the Historic Slocum Cabin at Chatfield State Park.  He has earned the Akela, Conservation, Religious and Honor Camper awards and two Eagle Palms (each required 5 merit badges beyond Eagle).

Logan Nelson, a freshman at the University of Wyoming, earned his Eagle on May 4, 2014. During his Eagle Project he constructed benches at Powell Middle School’s memorial site. He is the recipient of the Akela Award.

Grady Wasil, a Heritage senior, earned his Eagle on Nov. 23, 2014. His Eagle Project included painting a theater wall and repainting murals, refinishing art tables, and mixing concrete for temporary fencing at LUMC. He served twice as senior patrol leader and is a Tribe of Mic-o-Say member. He earned the Polar Bear, World Conservation and Den Chief Service awards. This fall he will attend Metro State to study computer programming.

Grant Wharry, a freshman at the University of Northern Colorado, earned his Eagle on April 6, 2014. During his Eagle Project, he repaired eight sousaphone cases at Arapahoe High School, applied new coverings and linings and replaced hardware.  He is an Order of the Arrow Ordeal Member, a warrior in the Tribe of Mic-o-Say and a recipient of the World Conservation, Winter Camping College Completion and Honor Camper awards. He also served on the Bighorn National Leadership Camp Staff for four sessions.
